Wanted: Louisiana’s Longest Married Couple
Louisiana Family Forum looks forward to finding the Top 10 Longest Married Couples in Louisiana and recognizing these couples for their loving legacy.
The Top 10 Longest “Known” Married Couples will receive an Official Statement of Special Recognition from the Governor’s office and be entered into the LFF “Marriage Hall of Fame.” The Longest “Known” Married Couple will be honored at a dessert reception in the Governor’s Mansion on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2012, and will be joined by family, friends and media to celebrate the occasion.Every year during National Marriage Week, Feb. 7th to the 14th, LFF honors the longest “known” married couple found in the state of Louisiana. LFF celebrates life-long marriage and embraces the opportunity to honor couples who have exemplified devotion in their marriage covenants.
LFF first located and honored George and Germaine Briant as Louisiana’s “longest married” couple in 2002. The Briants were married 84 years before passing away three days apart in 2005. Ralph and Dottie Richards, the 2011 Longest Married Couple, celebrated 81 years of marriage on February 28, 2011. Shortly thereafter, Ralph Richards passed away.
