Forum Notes

A mother and father in New York were subjected by their school district's attorney to a second round of faith "sincerity tests," which ultimately ruled their beliefs were too questionable to qualify for a religious exemption to mandatory student immunization. Ron and Rita Palma filed the exemption with their son's school district in 2006 after coming to the conclusion the year before that the required vaccinations violated their conscience and sense of God's leading for their family.

This nugget was hidden in a Shreveport Times article today:

A 2007 study by The Tax Foundation shows  that Louisiana, at 0.14 percent of median home values, has the lowest homeowner property tax rate in the nation, less than half of second-lowest Alabama's 0.30 percent rate.  [Why don't we hear about this as Louisiana leading a national trend?]

Louisiana Public Broadcasting recently aired an episode of "Louisiana, the State We're In," interviewing LFF Action President Gene Mills regarding Planned Parenthood's desire to force the state into promoting HPV vaccinations for eleven year olds

President Obama has nominated David Ogden to be the next Deputy Attorney General. The Deputy Attorney General is the number two man in the U.S. Justice Department. The Fidelis organization has done a great service in compiling David Ogden's shocking legal "track record," which can be viewed here.

Louisiana Family Forum Action drafted and promoted the Louisiana Science Education Act through the Legislature and State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education in order to foster an environment of academic freedom in the classroom.  The bill passed out of both houses nearly unanimously and was signed by the governor.

Gene Mills referenced a vaccine safety form on his interview with LPB this week.

If you consider that a child receives over 40+ vaccinations before the age of five and the reports of adverse reactions like autism, it is important to know that your family doctor believes that the vaccines that he or she is injecting into that little arm are safe.

More people were moving into Louisiana during 2008 than out of the state, according to a survey from United Van Lines. According to the report, based on nearly 199,000 interstate household moves, 54% of the moves involving Louisiana were going into the state. The District of Columbia was the top destination, with 62.1% of the moves going into the area, while Michigan was the top outbound state for the third year in a row.  While this does not mitigate the outmigration of families in Louisiana, it is a positive sign.
