Some 22 schools have been impacted in East Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Livingston Parish. Children and parents hope to restore some normalcy soon by returning to school and allowing them a break from disaster. East Baton Rouge Parish Schools announced one day before the rescheduled opening day of school that no school will resume until at least September 6th!
LFF feels compelled to find resources to fill unused seats in schools, so we are launching our Louisiana Education Scholarship Fund where every $5,000 donation raised will send one child to the school of their parents’ choice.
Let us explain… an LFF backed bill (Talbot Student Tuition Tax Rebate) passed the Louisiana Legislature back in 2013 allowing the creation of a Tax Rebate Scholarship Fund which awards kids on the basis of fund availability. One of Baton Rouge’s finest private schools has 50 seats available right now!
The beauty of this type of gift is that it will keep on giving. How, you ask? Because the program allows a 95% rebate of a donation for each subsequent year (with an allowance for a 5% administrative charge) for the Student Tuition Organization. In our case, this will be the Arete’ Scholars Fund, so a $5,000 gift, minus the administrative charge, with the rebate rolled over each year, yields a $4750 scholarship in year two and a $4512 scholarship in year three and so on.
